Off-Campus Housing Resources
Make the most of your college experience by living on campus. Apply now to live amongst your peers in a secure, fun, and supportive environment – plus it’s super convenient!
Some students, however, may choose or be required to live off campus (TEP, families, pets); a list of resources is provided through the SAOC and more community-related information is provided below.
Off-Campus Housing Options:
Choice of location & price
Choice of living independently or with a roommate
Check out the Facebook group called OC Off-Campus Housing to see what rentals are available. This group is managed by the Students’ Association of Olds College of Agriculture & Technology.
There are a number of Facebook groups (e.g., Buy & Sell, Housing Rental) within the county. Please make sure you check Olds, Didsbury, Carstairs, Bowden, Innisfail, and Sundre for other opportunities in the area.
The local paper (Mountain View Albertan) has a Classified section that includes housing rentals.
There are a number of local realtors that manage rental inventories within the community, please contact them for opportunities.
The Town of Olds has a secondary suite bylaw. When searching in Olds, and if required, please make sure you confirm with the landlord if an additional dwelling has been approved.
Reminder: Know your rights before signing agreements and making payments. For more information click here.
Questions to ask a potential landlord:
What is included in the rent? (e.g., heat, water, electricity, internet)?
What furniture or appliances are included? (e.g., fridge, stove, bed, washer)?
Can I rent “month-to-month” rather than signing a lease?
How much is the damage deposit?
Are there rental restrictions? (e.g., pets, smoking, guests)
Many landlords will require a one year lease (minimum term of your stay there). Lease terms may be negotiable. If you break a lease, you could lose your deposit.
Please note, if your first choice is to live in on-campus housing and there is no immediate availability, then we would encourage you to contact Residence Services to discuss waitlist processes.
